About Brian
Brian Smith is a Birmingham, Alabama attorney and Senior Managing Attorney for the Disability Practice at Wettermark Keith. He has been with the firm since 2011 and focuses his practice on helping individuals pursue disability benefits through the Social Security Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Railroad Retirement Board. With extensive experience across multiple disability systems, Brian guides clients through complicated claims and appeals while working to protect their rights and secure the benefits they deserve.
Brian has represented Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claimants at every stage of the administrative and judicial process, including initial applications, reconsideration, administrative hearings, Appeals Council review, and federal court proceedings. He has personally represented claimants in more than 2,500 administrative law judge hearings, giving him substantial experience navigating the issues that can arise in disability cases. His practice also includes representing veterans seeking benefits through the VA and railroad workers pursuing claims before the Railroad Retirement Board.
Beyond his casework, Brian has taken an active role in the legal profession. He serves as Chair of the Social Security Caucus of the Alabama Association for Justice and maintains memberships with several national organizations focused on disability and veterans’ advocacy. His professional recognition includes Super Lawyers Mid-South Rising Stars honors from 2017 through 2023, as well as Top 100 recognition for Social Security Disability Leadership in 2022 and 2023.
